Come join us for the Mitchell County Democratic Party County Convention!
Democrats from across Mitchell County will gather at 10:00 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, March 28th, in the courtroom of the historic Mitchell County Courthouse (11 North Mitchell Avenue) in Bakersville, NC for our 2026 annual County Convention. This is an important opportunity for all Mitchell County Democrats to come together, celebrate our shared values, and shape the future of our party in our part of Western North Carolina.
During our convention, we will: hear updates from some of our exciting candidates; consider resolutions; and, elect MCDP officers and delegates to the district and state conventions as well as some other positions. More importantly, it will be an opportunity for Democrats from across our communities to come together to connect, organize, and build momentum for the work ahead of us.
If you are interested in becoming more involved and want to serve, we will be electing the following positions (with the position's primary responsibility).
Chair — preside at county executive committee meetings and county conventions, or designate a person to preside over all or parts of these meetings;
First Vice Chair — plan and organize county executive committee meetings and county activities;
Second Vice Chair — plan and organize training sessions for county executive committee members and other interested active Democrats.
Third Vice Chair — serve as the publicity chair for the county executive committee utilizing local newspapers, newsletters, etc. to illuminate policy issues and announce political activities and/or accomplishments to voters in the county.
Secretary — keep and maintain in good order all records of the county executive committee.
SEC Member — represent Mitchell County at the NCDP SEC meetings. (two or three a year)
8 Delegates to the District Convention (May 9th in Sylva, NC) — attend the 11th District Convention.
7 Delegates to the State Convention (June 27th in Fayetteville) — attend the NCDP State Convention.
2 State Senatorial District Executive Committee Members — serve on a committee to select a candidate for the NC Senate should a vacancy occur in our Senate district.
2 State House of Representatives District Executive Committee Members — serve on a committee to select a candidate for the NC House should a vacancy occur in our House district.
2 Prosecutorial District Executive Committee Members — serve on a committee to select a candidate for the prosecutorial district should a vacancy occur in our district.
