North Carolina Republicans just rammed through a gerrymandered map that steals yet another congressional district out from under North Carolina voters, tilting our delegation 11–3 in their own favor – because Donald Trump asked them to!

The North Carolina Democratic Party is putting out this volunteer all-call: find out what just happened, what might happen next, and what we ALL need to do about it. The call will be at 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

The Mitchell County Democratic Party (MCDP) will host a RETROSPECTIVE:  Hurricane Helene Resiliency program in the Sam Center of Mayland Commuity College at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20th. 

Our guest speaker will be Dylan Rhoney who currently serves as the State Organizing Coordinator and reporter for the Cardinal & Pine. Rhoney is a graduate of Appalachian State University and hails from Morganton, NC. He is passionate about travel, politics, history, and all things North Carolina. 

Over the past year, Dylan Rhoney has led the way on Cardinal & Pine's coverage of Hurricane Helene and its lasting impact on Western North Carolina. His coverage includes a dozen articles, over 50 interviews, and several visits to communities across the region (including Mitchell County), featuring Helene survivors, community leaders, small business owners, and local elected officials. 
 
Rhoney will be sharing some of those stories in a presentation on October 20th, highlighting how Western North Carolina came together in the face of tragedy, the resilience of the region's communities, and the challenges that lie ahead to make Western North Carolina whole again.

The McDowell County Democrats have invited the Democrats in Mitchell, Avery, and Yancey Counties to Lake James for a hotdog cookout to thank everyone for their hard work and have a rally before the November 4th municipal elections.

The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the Unity Picnic with Yancey, Avery, and McDowell Counties and prepare for the MCDP canvass to repair voter registrations and the upcoming municipal election in Bakersville.

The Mitchell County Democratic Party Executive Committee will meet to debrief from the August Sun-Kissed Social and to discuss upcoming events during the Fall.

The program includes a catered dinner and reception, and program.  Honorees from our District 11 counties will receive the 2025 Annual Ramsey Award, and one hard working Democrat in District 11 will receive the 2025 Democrat of the Year award. The MCDP will be presenting former State Senator Wanda H. Hunt with the Liston B. Ramsey Award at the Gala.

Nicole Quick, our keynote speaker for the Gala, serves as a Government Relations Officer for Carolina Forward, where she is on the front lines, working to create a more just, democratic, and prosperous North Carolina for every resident.

Drawing on a robust foundation as a community organizer, county Party chair, and legislative candidate, Nicole possesses an intimate understanding of North Carolina politics, which is instrumental in advancing Carolina Forward's critical goals at the state legislature.

A lifelong advocate, her passion for justice and equity — ensuring everyone has a fair shot — sparked her political engagement in college and continues to fuel her impactful work today.

The Mitchell County Democratic Party Executive Committee will hold its monthly meeting to discuss recaps of the M-Y Pride and Rhododendron Festivals, the SEC meeting, potential nominees for the 11th Congressional Democrats’ Liston B. Ramsey Awards, and our summer and autumn activities.

The State Executive Committee of the North Carolina Democratic Party will meet in in the Ferguson Auditorium of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College on June 28, 2025. It will be a hyrid meeting and individuals can participate in the meeting via Zoom

Registration for the SEC meeting will launch on May 27, 2025.

The Mitchell County Democratic Party will have a booth at the M-Y Pride event to register voters and inform participants about the activities and programs of the Mitchell County Democratic Party.

The MCDP Executive Committee will meet to discuss a recap of the 11th District Democratic Meeting, developing a MCDP strategic plan, and activities to be pursued in 2025.

The North Carolina 11th District Democrats will hold their annual convention at 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on May 10, 2025. The convention will be held in the Tuscola High School Auditorium in Waynesville, NC.
