WORDS THAT MOVE US: An Evening of Politics & Poetry
Two best friends. Two callings. One shared belief: words matter.
Join us for a lively and thoughtful evening of words and works; where public service meets the power of language. Suzanne Gavenus, candidate for House District 85, will give remarks about the road ahead for her district. And, in a special guest appearance, a reading of new work by poet Maria Garcia Teutsch.
Come for the inspiration, stay for the conversation, and help shape what comes next. Because democracy not only requires a commitment to public service, but also to courage and imagination.

Mapping Our Path Forward Zoom Call
Our state is (even more) gerrymandered. Now what?
North Carolina Republicans just rammed through a gerrymandered map that steals yet another congressional district out from under North Carolina voters, tilting our delegation 11–3 in their own favor – because Donald Trump asked them to!
The North Carolina Democratic Party is putting out this volunteer all-call: find out what just happened, what might happen next, and what we ALL need to do about it. The call will be at 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
We'll hear from the Honorable G.K. Butterfield Jr. and NCDP's Voter Protection Director, Cat Lawson.
We have a path out of this mess. And we need everyone to KNOW. THE. PLAN.
RSVP now and tell your friends!
It should be an informative and inspiring night, so please sign up to attend this call on the Mobilize link by clicking here.
RETROSPECTIVE: Hurricane Helene Resiliency
The Mitchell County Democratic Party (MCDP) will host a RETROSPECTIVE: Hurricane Helene Resiliency program in the Sam Center of Mayland Commuity College at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20th.
Our guest speaker will be Dylan Rhoney who currently serves as the State Organizing Coordinator and reporter for the Cardinal & Pine. Rhoney is a graduate of Appalachian State University and hails from Morganton, NC. He is passionate about travel, politics, history, and all things North Carolina.
Over the past year, Dylan Rhoney has led the way on Cardinal & Pine's coverage of Hurricane Helene and its lasting impact on Western North Carolina. His coverage includes a dozen articles, over 50 interviews, and several visits to communities across the region (including Mitchell County), featuring Helene survivors, community leaders, small business owners, and local elected officials.
Rhoney will be sharing some of those stories in a presentation on October 20th, highlighting how Western North Carolina came together in the face of tragedy, the resilience of the region's communities, and the challenges that lie ahead to make Western North Carolina whole again.
It should be an informative and inspiring night, so please sign up to attend this event on the Mobilize link by clicking here.Cardinal & Pine is a North Carolina-based newsroom of award-winning journalists with a modern take on sharing information and telling stories that impact our communities. Their stories are factual and focus on North Carolinians like us. The loss of local newspapers in North Carolina has left too many people without credible information about important issues. In the absence of strong reporting, misinformation spreads. They are dedicated to stopping misinformation from taking over our state.

Salt & Light Conferece Protest
The North Carolina Faith & Freedom Foundation is bringing its 8th annual Salt & Light Conference to Marion, NC on September 26-28, 2025.
Billed as "the largest most influential faith-based policy conference in North Carolina," it will feature the following notable politicians:
Kristi Noem, Secretary. U. S. Department of Homeland Security
Michael Whatley, Chairman, Republican National Committee and aspiring U. S. Senator from North Carolina
Dave Boliek, North Carolina State Auditor
Congressman Mark Harris (R-8th Congressional District)
Mitchell County Democrats will join the McDowell County Democrats, Mountain Indivisible of WNC, and others in protesting outside the conference to show those attending that not all North Carolinians support the Christian Nationalist agenda promoted by this conference and the failed policies of the government officials who are attending.
Please sign up for a shift so that we can keep you apprised of plans and logistics. Encourage your friends and others to join all of us. And, don’t forget to make your signs.
You can sign up for this for your time slot here.
